Desuggestopedia

BA 3rd Year
• Celce-Murcia (1991) calls this method as an affective
humanistic approach.
• It is an approach in which there is respect for
students’ feelings.
• The originator of this method, Georgi Lozanov,
believes as does silent method’s Caleb Gattegno, that
language learning can occur at a much faster rate than
ordinarily transpires.
• Lozanov asserts that we set up psychological barriers
to learning.
• We fear that we will be unable to perform that we
will be limited in our ability to learn, that we will
fail.
• One reason is that we do not use the full mental
powers that we have.
• We are just using 5 to 10 % of our mental capacity.
• In order to make better use of reserved capacity,
the limitations that we think we have need to be
desuggested.
• Desuggestopedia is the application of the study
of suggestion to pedagogy.
• It has been developed to help students
eliminate the feeling that they cannot be
successful or the negative association they may
have toward studying and to help them
overcome the barriers to learning.
• Students mental reserves are stimulated
through integration of the fine arts.
