Rectangular Footing Design

Problem 1

A rectangular column footing is to support a 600mm by 600mm square tied column that
carries a service dead load and live load of 1,680 kN and 1,350 kN respectively. The depth of
the footing base is 1.8 meters from the NGL. Allowable soil pressure is 230 kPa. The unit
weight of soil above footing is 16 kN/m3 and unit weight of concrete is 24 kN/m3. Concrete
compressive strength is 28 Mpa and steel yield strength is 345 Mpa. Design the footing if its
width is limited to 3.2 meters. Use 25mm bars and 75mm clear concrete cover. Use NSCP
2001.
