SLIDESMANIA
DID YOU KNOW?
BANDAGING
Covering a break in the skin helps to prevent infection and control
bleeding. Dressings are gauze or cotton pads that are applied
directly to a wound to absorb blood and other fluids. Cloth
bandages keep dressings in place by covering them.

FIRST AID FRACTURE
First aid is when you provide basic medical care It is a broken bone. It requires medical attention.
to someone who has suffered a sudden accident If the person is unresponsive, isn't breathing or
or illness. In certain circumstances, first aid isn't moving, call 911. Begin CPR if there's no

emergency. This assistance could help them get
by until expert help arrives.
SLIDESMANIA
CLASSIFICATION OF BANDAGING
1. GAUZE - a simple woven strip of material, or a woven
strip of material with a Telfa absorbent barrier to prevent
adhering to wounds.

2. COMPRESSION - capable of shortening around the

limb after application and is therefore not exerting ever-
increasing pressure during inactivity.
SLIDESMANIA
CLASSIFICATION OF BANDAGING
3. TRIANGULAR –  a piece of cloth put into a right-angled
triangle, and often provided with safety pins to secure it in
place.

4. TUBE – used to hold dressings or splints on to limbs, or

to provide support to sprains and strains, and it stops
bleeding.
SLIDESMANIA
WHAT IS A ROLLER BANDAGE?

● It is a strip of gauze or cotton material

prepared in a roll. Roller bandages can be
used to immobilize injured body parts
which may be because of sprains and
torn muscles.
● This also provides pressure to control
internal or external bleeding, absorb
drainage, and secure dressings.
SLIDESMANIA
APPLYING ROLLER BANDAGES

1. Select the appropriate bandage material for the

injury.
2. Select the appropriate width of bandage.
3. Prepare the patient for bandaging.
4. Apply the anchor wrap.
5. Apply the bandage wrap to the injury.
6. Check the circulation after application of the
bandage.
7. Elevate the injured extremities.
SLIDESMANIA
PATTERNS USED IN BANDAGING
1. RECURRENT BANDAGE – This is used to
retain a dressing on the head, on a stump or
on the end of a finger. It is made by fixing the
bandage with two circular turns.
2. FIGURE OF EIGHT BANDAGE – This begun
by forming two loops or turns, one above and
one below a joint.
SLIDESMANIA
PATTERNS USED IN BANDAGING
3.CIRCULAR BANDAGE – This is used to secure
the bandage at the start of tying a bandage.

4. SPIRAL BANDAGE – This is used to cover an

area of uniform circumference.

5. SPIRAL REVERSE – This is used on a cone

shaped part of the body.
SLIDESMANIA
CLASSIFICATION OF FRACTURES

1. OPEN FRACTURE - When a broken bone breaks through the skin, it is classified as an open
fracture. The bone is sometimes visible through the wound.

2. CLOSED FRACTURE - Closed fractures do not penetrate the skin or carry the same risk of
infection as open fractures. While closed fractures are not usually considered emergencies,
they still require prompt treatment. The damage from these fractures can harm the surrounding
soft tissue, resulting in fracture blisters.

3. DISPLACED FRACTURE - A displaced fracture is a broken bone that snaps so far out of
place that the two ends no longer line up straight. This makes it harder to treat the fracture with
immobilization alone, and surgery is usually required.
SLIDESMANIA
WHAT IS A SPLINT?
● It is a supportive device used to keep in
place any suspected fracture in one’s
arm or leg.
● It provides pain relief of the fractured
limb.
● It supports bone ends of the fracture site.
● It facilitates safe and seamless causality
transport.
SLIDESMANIA
IMPORTANCE
SLIDESMANIA
IMPORTANCE
First Aid is an important tool in quickly
responding to accidents to ensure that
injuries can be efficiently and promptly
dealt with before trained medical
professional arrives to administer more
specialized treatment.
SLIDESMANIA
IMPORTANCE
How important is bandaging in first aid?

It is important to do the proper bandaging technique when using

and administering first aid on a wound or injury. The main goal of
placing a bandage on an injury is for immobilization, protection,
support or compression. If the bandaging technique is not done
properly, it could exacerbate the damage.
SLIDESMANIA
IMPORTANCE
Bandages do several things: Provide a means of
hemmorhage or bleeding control in addition to
allowing a medical provider the opportunity to take
their hands off the patient and the bandage continues to
do the bleeding control. Protects a wound from outside
contaminants.
SLIDESMANIA
IMPORTANCE
The purposes served by dressings include protecting
wounds; promoting healing; and providing, retaining,
or removing moisture. Bandages can be used to hold
dressings in place, to relieve pain, and generally to
make the patient comfortable.

COMMON CAUSES
SLIDESMANIA
COMMON CAUSES OF FRACTURES

● Fractures, sprains, dislocations, strains, and other related injuries

especially in athletes are commonly caused by the stress implicated in
their bodies.
● An insufficiency fracture, according to Pentecost, is caused by a
normal or physiological stress exerted to the bone with insufficient elastic
resistance.
● A fatigue or stress fracture, on the other hand, occurs when excessive
tension or trauma is given to a bone that has normal elastic resistance.
SLIDESMANIA
COMMON CAUSES OF FRACTURES

● A spontaneous or pathological fracture is defined

as a fracture that occurs apparently from inadequate
trauma. Because of improper growth, constitutional
illness, or local or systemic bone disease, the bone
breaks way under seemingly minor force.

HOW TO MANAGE THE
INJURY
SLIDESMANIA
HOW TO MANAGE FRACTURES

Don't move the person except if necessary to avoid

further injury.

The steps on the following slide can be done while

waiting for medical help. By doing so, this would help
alleviate the pain the victim is experiencing.
SLIDESMANIA
HOW TO MANAGE FRACTURES

● Stop any bleeding

● Immobilize the injured area
● Apply ice packs to limit swelling and help
relieve pain
● Treat for shock

PERFORMER OF THE
FIRST AID
SLIDESMANIA
DO’S OF THE PERFORMER OF FIRST AID

APPLY PRESSURE TO SEVERE

BLEEDING
Over the wound, block the flow with gauze or
sterile cloth. If you don't have anything else,
use a clean T-shirt or sock. Raise the injured
area to allow gravity to aid in the slowing of the
bleeding. To retain continuous pressure on the
wound, wrap it. After that, see a doctor for
treatment. If the blood is spurting or won't stop,
seek medical help immediately away.
SLIDESMANIA
DO’S OF THE PERFORMER OF FIRST AID

ROLL A PERSON WHO IS

UNCONSCIOUS ON THEIR SIDE
Tilt their head back gently. This keeps the tongue out of
the airway, allowing them to breathe. Blood and vomit
can drip out of the mouth in this "recovery position." If
the person's spine or neck has been harmed, such as
after a car accident, don't do this. Place infants face
down across your arm and use your hand to hold their
neck and head. Just remember to stay away from the
nose and mouth.
SLIDESMANIA
WHAT NOT TO DO
Do not further harm the victim
Do not let the patient see their own injury
Do not leave the patient alone except to get
help
Do not assume that the patient’s obvious
injuries area the only injuries
Do not make unrealistic promises.
