WHAT IS DIGITAL SKILL?

• Digital skills are defined as the ability to find, evaluate, use, share, and
create content using digital devices, such as computers and smart
phones. 
SIGNIFICANCE OF DIGITAL
SKILL
• These days, the digital skills required in the workplace are a bit more
advanced, and companies expect the vast majority of their employees to
have them, not just a select few. Technology is at the center of our lives, and
as our dependence on the internet and digital communications increases, our
workforce must keep up with the evolving skill demand.
• Without a firm command of digital skills, there is no way to propel
innovation and remain competitive. Employers realize this, so they’re
prioritizing candidates who can showcase their digital literacy. By
developing better digital skills, employees have a chance to contribute to
their communities, future-proof their careers, and explore a wide range of
professional opportunities.
DIGITAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE
AND PRACTICES FOR MANAGER
• Digital skills, knowledge and practices are increasingly important in
enabling a manager to effectively and safely understand and interact
with the digital world
• Being digitally literate allows a manager to consume and produce
digital content and enhance how to operate in company.
AREAS OF DIGITAL SKILLS AND
PRACTICES
The five areas of digital skills and practices are
• ICT /Computer Skill
• Information Skill
• Media Skill
• Communication And Collaboration
• Learning Skills
ICT / COMPUTER SKILL

• This refers to the ability to use digital device, programmes, applications


and services in pursuit of goals for a manager.
• It covers a wide range of competencies from basic keyboard skills to
the ability to explore and understand new technologies.
• An ICT literate manager is able to choose from a variety of tools and
services to achieve an object using most appropriate means.
EXAMPLE

• A manager can use digital devices for everyday office tasks e.g.,
• Online banking shopping online, printing
• Using E-mail, creating and working with documents, spreadsheets
• Copying file, e-mailing a file
INFORMATION SKILLS

• Being able to find, interpret, evaluate, organise, manipulate, share and


record information is vital to learning and working in the 21st century.
EXAMPLE

• Find Content
• Organize and share resources
• Evaluate resources
• Daily Reporting
MEDIA SKILLS

• Production of high quality media is now relatively using widely


available device and software.
• Effective consumption and production of these type of outputs requires
a sophisticated understanding of audience, creator and message.
EXAMPLE

• Awareness, experience and understanding of a range of digital media


• E.g. email, skype, zoom, MS meetings

• Understand audience
• Choose means of transmission most suitable to target recipients
• Choose appropriate language and content

• Create media resources


• Capture with photo, video and audio
• Use text, video and audio editing software
COMMUNICATION &
COLLABORATION
• Digital networks increasingly play a significant role in supporting
knowledge and learning, whilst collaborative working supported by
digital forms of communication is now common.

• Understanding of online etiquette for different areas of communication
• Using skype, microsoft communicator or other software for video calls

• Collaborative
• Working simultaneously on document in online environment
• Version control and tracking changes for document passed between users

• Events
• Participating in and running interactive online events
LEARNING SKILLS

• There are similarities to general learning skills but here, there is a


particular focus on the ability to study and learn effectively in
technology-rich environments. Sometimes referred to as ‘learning to
learn online’ this encompasses the use of digital tools to support critical
thinking , note taking, time and task management.
• A manager should be also be comfortable being assesses and attending
to feedback in digital formats and with undertaking independent study
using digital/digitised resources and learning materials.
EXAMPLE

• Managing time and commitments


• Using calendars on one or across multiple devices eg outlook, Google, Ical etc
• Understanding of how to organize meeting using Microsoft Outlook
• Understanding and use of skype, microsoft communicator or video
conferencing as a way to save time.

• Identifying and attending to own learning needs


• Online trainings, forums etc
• Online courses
• Google, You tube, Wikipedia etc
CONCLUSION

• In conclusion, we can say that a manager should be the expert of 5


digital skills to survive and manage its task in a fast changing in digital
environment and these skills are:
• ICT /Computer Skill
• Information Skill
• Media Skill
• Communication And Collaboration
• Learning Skills
