EV chargers types

There are two main types of EV chargers

AC and DC:
● AC alternating current
● DC direct current
AC chargers

AC chargers use alternating current to

charge an EV's battery.

AC chargers can be installed in homes and

businesses, and they are often used for
overnight charging.

They are also commonly found in

public places like parking and
shopping centers, where drivers
can leave their cars to charge while
they shop or run errands.

● The power that comes from the grid is always AC

(alternating current).
● The energy stored in batteries is always DC
(direct current).

DC chargers

DC chargers use direct current to charge an

EV's battery.
They are much faster than AC chargers,
with some models able to charge an EV in
30 minutes.

DC chargers are typically found

along highways and major travel
routes, where drivers need to
quickly charge their vehicles before
continuing their journey.

vs
Difference between AC and DC
When you use a DC charging station, the
conversion from AC to DC happens in the
charging station—allowing DC power to flow
directly from the station into the battery.
Because the conversion process happens
inside the charging station While DC charging
is fast, it is expensive and requires a high-
voltage connection to the power grid, which
makes it impossible to install at home.
the main difference between AC
and DC charging is where the
conversion from AC to DC
happens,in the vehicle or the
charging station.
