INTRODUC
Bones are hard organs whose main function is to support and protect soft tissues of the animal body, as well as

CION
participate in locomotion through a system of levers.
In this case we will focus a little more on the skeleton of an equine, which is made up of 205 bones distributed as
follows: Vertebral column: 54 bones; ribs: 36 bones; sternum: 1 bone; skull: 34 bones; thoracic limbs: 40 bones; pelvic
limbs: 40 bones. An average number of 18 caudal or coccygeal vertebrae is taken, the temporal bone as one, the coxal
bone as one, and the sesamoids are included.
GOA
GENE
RAL
Know the main characteristics and anatomical details of the different bones that make up the equine
skeleton in situ, through the disassembly, disinfection, painting and assembly of the skeletons.
SPECIFI
C
• Perform maintenance on the bone structure of an equine that belongs to the National Agrarian
University.
• Correctly identify the bones that make up the equine skeleton.
• Differentiate equine bone structures with respect to other species of interest.
DEVELO
The skeleton of a horse accounts for 8% of its body weight. Its head alone has 34 different bone structures, to which
must be added a total of 51 vertebrae (7 cervical, 18 thoracic, 6 lumbar, 5 sacral and 15 caudal) and 36 ribs, less in
Arabian horses that have two. ribs and one less lumbar vertebra.
In dorsal: the totality of the
thoracic vertebrae (18 Eq, 13 Ru and Ca), where the set of their bodies form a protruding ridge towards the interior of
the thoracic cavity.

CONCLUS
ION
To finish this collaborative work of the morphophysiological module I, we can say that it is a great
experience since osteology is part of descriptive anatomy, therefore, it is essential in medical practice, for
therapeutic, conservation and restoration purposes. animal health, we also learned the shape, size, joints and
particularities of each of the bones studied in situ, by maintaining the equine bone structure that they gave
us.
