CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT
 Any large - scale development is accounted by civil
constructions like buildings, roads, bridges, railways,
public health works and industrial sheds
 Scope – When manpower, materials, finance and
machinery are properly organized and integrated, the
construction business will be successful
 IMP: Construction Management involves knowledge of
organizational setup, planning through PERT and CPM,
knowledge of contract systems, execution of works and
accounting procedures
 The art of construction has become a science
 In India, Construction business contribute to 10 to 20%
GNI.

This could be summarized as:

 Analyze work scientifically. Investigate all aspects


in a scientific basis.

legislation(Labor Act)

Labour Laws:
1. Min wages Act, 1948
2. Workmen’s Compensation Act, 1923
Min Wages Act,1948
 Minimum wages shall be paid in cash
 Fix number of working hours in a day
 Provide a day for rest in every period of seven days
 Extra payment for multiple tasks and overtime job
 Maintenance of records
 Government should appoint some officers for
inspection
 Even a person can claim against the enterprise
 Government is held responsible according to the law
if the complaint is reasonable.
The Workmen’s Compensation Act, 1923
An injury- valid in case of employment should be compensated
 Exceptions: drugs, drinks
violating rules
not taking safety precautions
 Occupational disease
 The compensation should be as below:
(a) If death results from injury- 40% of the monthly wages (or) an

amount of Rs. 20,000(whichever is more)


(b) If permanent total disablement results from injury – Rs 24000
(or) 50% of the monthly wages (whichever is more)
(c ) If temporary disablement, total or partial result from injury –
25% of monthly wages

Note:Specifically, a worker is entitled to
compensation in case of:
Death
 Permanent total disablement
 Permanent Partial disablement
 Temporary disablement – both total and
partial
 It has contracted an occupational disease.
