What is a topographic map?


Large-scale map representing selected aspects of the earth's
surface
Shows both physical and human features

Examples of physical features:- a hill,mountain,valley,river,pond

Examples of human features:- village,town,cemetery,church,roads


The land around us is seldom
flat.There are nearly always
differences in height.
Representing
Height There may be hills,mountains
(above 600m or 2000 feet
high) valleys or areas that are
quite level.
Contour Lines

• Contours are lines on maps joining places of the same height above sea
level.
• Height at sea level= 0 m
• Contour Lines DO NOT cross each other
• The number on a contour line indicates the height that the line represents.
• These lines are usually coloured brown.

Natural Resources occur naturally within the earth and are not made by man.They include
minerals,agricultural and biotic resources.

1) Mineral Resources-gold,bauxite,oil,iron ore

2) Agricultural Resources- soil,rainfall,sunshine

3)Biotic Resources-wood from forests,fish from rivers/sea
