Meaning of USED TO + VERB – an action or habit that was
common in the past but not anymore (discontinued action or
habit)

• She used to study very hard when she was in university.


• I used to speak French very well, but now I cannot speak it
well.

Used to in positive sentences
(used to + verb base)
Used to ends in –ed which normally means the verb is in the past tense
• I used to drink coffee every morning but now I drink tea.
• She used to live in London but now she lives in New York.
• He used to play soccer professionally but he had to quit because of
an injury.
