INTRODUCTION
DR is an eye disease which has been
caused due to high blood sugar level.
LET US WATCH A VIDEO
DIABETIC RETINOPATHY

TYPES OF DR:
 Non-proliferative DR
 Diabetic Maculopathy
 Proliferative DR
AIM:
 To identify diabetic retinopathy using the retinal images in
an efficient manner.
 Exudates is one of the features used to identify the diabetic
retinopathy.

OBJECTIVE:
 Exudates, a very important and mostly occurring feature of
retinopathy is identified using MATLAB.
ABSTRACT
 Diabetic retinopathy is one of the complications caused by
diabetes and it appears in the retina.
 Diabetic Retinopathy is a progressive eye diseases that causes
changes in the blood vessels of the retina which may cause
blindness if not prevented and treated at early stage.
 The early detection and diagnosis is essential to save the vision
of diabetic patients.
 The presented work investigates and presents a technique for
the detection of DR through processing retina images.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
 The patients with diabetes are at risk, they should check up
their eyes in a regular interval for the diagnosis of diabetic
retinopathy.
 Since Proliferative diabetic retinopathy does not show any
symptoms until they are in last stage of vision loss.
 By image processing we can determine whether exudates and
micro aneurysms is developed in the retina or not which will
detect the patient shown be taken care of.
 The retinal image of the eye and processing it by different
operations is the only method to diagnose diabetic retinopathy
and it also determines the degree of risk.
TOOLS USED
MATLA SIMULIN
B K
MATLAB allows matrix manipulations, plotting of Simulink is a MATLAB-based graphical programming
functions and data, implementation of algorithms, environment for modeling, simulating and analyzing
creation of user interfaces, and interfacing with multidomain dynamical systems. Its primary interface
programs written in other languages. is a graphical block diagramming tool.
NORMAL DEFECTIVE
Simulation of defective vision experienced by a diabetic whose
vision has been affected by diabetic retinopathy
Step 01:
Pre-Processing
Step 02:
IMAGE SEGMENTATION
STEP 3: FEATURE
EXTRACTION
On the basis of colour and texture orientation, features are
extracted using GLCM.

STEP 4: CLASSIFICATION
The final step is classification of given input as exudates
(or) non – exudates by naive bayes classifier.
