FIRST AID

• Immediate and temporary care given to a person who


has been injured or suddenly ill.
• It includes self-help and home care if medical
assistance is not available of delayed
Objectives of First Aid

To alleviate suffering


To prolong life
To prevent further injury or danger
Common Injury in Sports
• SPRAIN
• Caused by torn fibers in a ligament. Swelling and bruising are
some signs and symptoms
• HEAT EXHAUSTION
• Response to heat characterized by fatigue, weakness, collapse due
to inadequate intake of water to compensate for the loss of fluid
during sweating
SPRAIN – FIRST AID
• Remove any clothing or jewelry around the joint
• Apply cold compress
• Elevate the affected joint
• The physician of the victim may recommend an over the counter anti
inflammatory medication appropriate for the victim’s general condition.
HEAT EXHAUSTION – FIRST AID
• Have the victim lie down with his/her feet elevated
• Keep the victim cool
• Give him electrolyte beverages to sip or make a salted drink
• Monitor the victim for signs of shocks
• If the victim starts having seizures, protect him from injury and give first
aid for convulsions
• If the victim loses consciousness, give first aid for unconciousness,.
