OF RAINWATER HARVESTING
Rainwater harvesting is a process
WHAT IS of storing rainwater in large
RAINWATER amount. When it  is shortage of
water we use rainwater which is
HARVESTING ? harvested .In  Sikkim rainwater
harvesting is very  important.
HOW IS  RAINWATER HARVESTING DONE
(SIKKIM)?
a

As a robust climate adaptation strategy

Dhara Vikas is an innovative program
which was adopted in 2008 to revive and
maintain drying springs, to conserve
water .
WHAT IS
THE Rainwater harvesting is the
PROCESS collection and storage of rain,
OF rather than allowing it to run off.
Rainwater is collected from a roof-
RAINWATER like surface and redirected to a
HARVESTIN tank, cistern, deep pit, so that it
G? seeps down and restores the
ground water.
WHAT IS THE WATER
RESOURCE IN SIKKIM?

   Ratey Chu is abeautiful
river in Sikkim. The
rainwater which is
harvested from it to
houses.
WHAT ARE THE METHODS OF
RAINWATER HARVESTING?

•Groundwater recharge
A hydrologic process
where water moves
downward.
ADVANTAG • Helps in
reducing the water bill
ES OF • Less cost

RAINWATE • Promotes both water

and energy conservation
R • Reduces
the need for imported water.
HARVESTIN • Decreases the demand for
water.
G
DISADVANTAGES OF RAINWATER
HARVESTING

• Requires some technical skills for installation.

• If not installed correctly, it may attract mosquitoes and
other waterborne diseases.
• Regular Maintenance is required.
• One of the significant drawbacks of the rainwater
harvesting system is storage limits.
• Limited and no rainfall can limit the supply of Rainwater.
