1. The spirit of unity was built in the life of the Israelites when they struggled
for the Promised land. They have many different tribes or ethnics, but they
worked in unity.
2. We have that spirit, too, as the Indonesian people. We live in unity of many
different tribes, cultures, religions, and traditions.

our nation, Indonesia.
4. As the Church members and the Indonesian people, we are called to live
our unity in diversity in our daily life and neighborhood.

Day Two
ONE HUNDRED PERCENT CATHOLIC,
ONE HUNDRED PERCENT INDONESIAN
Mgr. Soegijapranata, SJ, the
first native bishop in Indonesia
who declared the spirit of
“One hundred percent Catholic
and One hundred percent
Indonesia” in the life of the
Indonesian Catholic Church.
Mgr. Soegijapranata helped the Indonesian first leader, Soekarno-Hatta in
managing the life of Indonesia after the proclamation of our independence
on August 17th, 1945.

He used the Cathedral of Semarang as the hiding place for the Indonesian
fighters against the Netherland Army. No matter what religion they had,
he protected them.

He asked the Church members to provide the food for the Indonesian
fighters every day.
Jesus calls us as His followers to live the “Unity in Diversity” with the spirit
“One hundred percent Catholic, one hundred percent Indonesia”.
