BACKGROUND STUDY

• Many students who want to live off campus will face problems since they will have less experience,
especially in choosing which residence is better. Many international students in UTM prefer living outside
the campus more than inside the campus, however there some international students prefer to live inside the
campus. For those who want to live inside the campus, they might face a problem that there will be no place
for him to live outside, or the university might force him to live outside depending on their laws. In this
project, we will help UTM international students in choosing which is the best residence to live in based on
several criterias.
OBJECTIVES

• This project is to design a model solution and analysis on different locations of residence located outside the
UTM for UTM students, especially the foreign students that are not able to get a college within the UTM.
By using the operation research method, the project is to help the students make decisions about the most
suitable residence for living within budget constraints.

FORMULATION MODEL DECISION MAKING WITH PROBABILITIES

• Since our scope is to give suggestions on which one is suitable with their budget, that’s why we need to
achieve the lowest cost for international students’ residence, we need to decide which one is having the
criteria that we already show by considering factors that occur in it by using Decision Making with
Probabilities Method.

CONSISTENCY IN AHP ANALYSIS
RESULT FROM AHP METHOD
DISCUSSION

• By using Decision tree analysis, Based on the deterministic solution, we can decide on the best residence
option for international students by considering their budget. In this process, we have taken into account
several factors such as location, amenities, and cost. After evaluating all the options and analysing the
data, it becomes clear that Melana Apartment has the lowest cost to rent among all the options.
• By using AHP analysis method, AHP is done based on three criteria which are transportation cost,
comfortableness and services. The criteria is listed by the importance of it to the students respectively.
Other than that, the data for the AHP is validated by the consistency of the pairwise comparisons for the
residences and its criterion using the consistency index (CI). The CI needs to be less than or equal to zero
for the data to show consistency. Since the CI/RI value needs to be lower or equal to 0.1, and the result
shows the value to be less than that of it, this shows that the AHP results are consistent.
CONCLUSION

In conclusion, Melana Apartment may have the lowest cost to rent, but it's important to consider all
factors before making a final decision. By considering cost, location, amenities and other factors,
we can ensure that the selected residence option is the best fit for the international students while
also being affordable within their budget and also by calculating the consistency with the ratio of
consistency index to the random index, the results obtained is 0.06 which are below 0.1 indicating
that the AHP result is consistent.
