POLITICS
→ activities that relate to
influencing the actions and
policies of a government or
getting and keeping power in a
government (Merriam Webster)
POLITICAL IDENTITY
→ ways in which being a member
of a particular group might
express specific political
opinions and attitudes
(Kristensen 2015)
POLITICAL SELF - ORGANIZATION
→ formation of political
patterns through the local
interactions of the
members only
For many voters, belonging to a political
party is not simply a voting decision.
FACTORS THAT FORM OUR
POLITICAL IDENTITY
1. FAMILY
→ It is where you live. Families are
generally the first, and often the
most enduring, influence on
young people's developing
political opinions.
2. GENDER
→ Most observers believe that
women think the Democrats more
strongly support "women's
issues," such as equal work, equal
pay, and equal legal rights.
3. RELIGION
→ associated with social issues
such as school prayer, abortion,
and divorce, than with
economic issues or foreign
affairs.

→ subdivision of the self that helps an individual
navigate the tension between the competing needs
for assimilation and differentiation in the political
domain.
NATIONAL IDENTITY
→ person's identity or
sense of belonging to
one state or to one
nation.

Our culture is our identity. (Legarda, 2016) But identity of an


individual is more complex nowadays.
THE NEED FOR INCLUSION AND
DIFFERENTIATION

A person may feel out of place within the norms


prevailing in his country. (Differentiation)

Being different however, will lead to a group that


satisfy both needs.

Political subgroups can be organized as a shared


grievance or a collection of shared grievance which
results to politicized identity.
POLITICAL AWARENESS

used this knowledge as an

Political Awareness is a NEED
because:
1. It affects you and everyone around you.
2. Political debates helps navigate own values and
beliefs.
3. It’s one step closer to being less ignorant.
4. This generation care for the future.
ORGANIZATIONAL POLITICS

→ also known as Workplace Politics or


Office Politics
→ process and behaviour in human interactions
involving power and authority
The Left and Right Spectrum of
Political Beliefs
1. Communism
→ social organization based on the
holding of all property in
common, actual ownership
being ascribed to the
community as a whole
2. Socialism
→ social organization which
advocates that the means of
production, distribution, and
exchange should be owned or
regulated by the community as a
whole
3. Liberalism LIBER = "free"
→ believe that government is
necessary to protect individuals
from being harmed by others, but
they also recognize that
government itself can pose a
threat to liberty
4. Conservatism
→ political and social philosophy
promoting traditional social
institutions in the context of
culture and civilization
5. Libertarianism
→ collection of political
philosophies and movements that
uphold liberty as a
core principle
6. Fascism
→ characterized by dictatorial power,
forcible suppression of
opposition, and strong
regimentation of society and of
the economy
