Disaster
-a serious disruption of the functioning of a community or society involving widespread human,
material, economic, or environmental losses, which exceeds the ability of the affected community or
society to cope using its own resources.
Two Types of Disaster:
Natural Disaster
Manmade Disaster
Natural Disaster
– are consequence when a natural hazard affects humans and/ or the built environment.
Examples of Natural Disaster

. Floods . Heavy Rains

Flashfloods . Pest Infestation

Tsunamis . Tornadoes

Volcanic Eruptions

Drought

Earthquake

Landslides

Fires (caused by Lighting


Manmade Disaster
– are events that are caused by humans and occur in or close to human settlements . It is an examples of specific
cases where man-made hazards have become reality in an event.
