Technology.
Introduction

 The construction industry is responsible for generating construction and

demolition (C&D) waste which is approximately 40-50% of the total amount of
waste.
 Demolition wastes are heavy, bulky, and have high density and take up loads of
land and space.
 The construction and demolition waste can be used both as a fine and coarse
aggregate to replace natural aggregate for production of concrete.
Introduction

 Using construction and demolition waste as a construction material ensures

efficient and sustainable use of the waste.

 Glass powder is also a recycling material, which has a significant binding

property, has been utilized as an enchanting material to replace cement.
Literature Review

 Prof.Chandrashekar Gowda K N, 2Sachin,T.N.Kusuma,K.S.Chethan,

G.Abhishek Gowda (2019): Compressive strength results of M20 grade concrete
block after 28 days curing was found to be 24.36,23.05, 22.14 and 20.78 Mpa for
replacement of C&D waste by 0%,10%,20%,30% respectively.

 Jagadeesh Bommisetty, Tirukovela Sai Keertan , A. Ravitheja b, K.

Mahendra (2019): The crushed waste ceramic tiles were used in concrete as a
replacement for natural coarse aggregates with 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% 20% and 25%
of substitution and compressive strengths were 32.29, 33.62, 34.07, 34.81, 35.55,
33.48 N/mm2 .
Literature Review

 Ravindra R, Anand Kumar BG, Santhosh N (2015): Use of waste

ceramic tiles as a partial replacement of quarry dust resulted in increment
of compressive strength of block from 15 Mpa to 20 MPa along with
water absorption less than 10% that satisfies standard requirement .

 Hongjian Du and Kiang Hwee Tan (2014):The concrete compressive

strength was not decreased by the cement substitution if the replacement is
below 30%, and also high performance concrete could be achieved by using
glass powder as 15% additive.
Objectives

 To investigate the mechanical properties of solid block.

 To compare the mechanical properties at different proportion of

materials used.

 To provide an alternative solution to fired clay brick.

Methodology
• Collection of raw materials
01 • ( C&D waste including concrete debris, Tiles, Glass powder, fresh cement, sand, water )

• Determination of physical properties of materials

02 • ( Specific Gravity, Fineness modulus, Density)

• Choosing the different mix proportions

03
• Block Casting and Curing
04 • ( Curing of block for 7,14,28 days )

• Laboratory and Field Test

05 • ( Compressive strength, water absorption)

• Interpretation and Comparison of research findings and results with conventional features
06
Collection of Raw Materials

a) Construction Demolition d) Cement

Waste

e) Local Sand

b) Waste Ceramic Tiles c) Glass Powder

Expected Outcome

 The compressive strength of block made of composition of ceramic tiles and fresh
recycled aggregate will be higher than block made of solely recycled aggregate.

 This block will be a cost effective production rather than conventional brick .

 The strength parameter of concrete will increase up to a certain percentage of

adding tiles as replacement and thereafter it will decrease.

 Water absorption of the block will be lower by using tiles.
