TYPES
OF
DANCES
DANCE
Dance is a particular series of
graceful movements of the body
and feet. When we dance, we
move our body and feet in a way
that follows a rhythm, usually in
time to music.
DANCE
It is a way of moving that uses the body
as an instrument of expression and
communication. Dance enables us to
understand ourselves and the world in
which we live. It also enhances our skills
of perception, observation, and
concentration
TYPES OF DANCES
1. Traditional Dance - A dance
performed at social functions by people
with little or no professional training,
often to traditionally based music,
generally designed for public performance
or the stage, execution dominated by an
inherited tradition rather than innovation.
TYPES OF DANCES
"Ethnic dance" is any dance form
which can be identified as
originating with an ethnic culture
and expressing the movement
aesthetics of that culture from a
certain race or country.
TYPES OF DANCES
It is also called as Ethnological dances are
those performed in primitive tribes and have
retained their close kinship with religious
ritual and community custom. These dances
may “require a certain level of special
performing skills” that are symbolic in
meaning, making it harder for those outside the
group to understand.
Types of Ethnic Dances:
1. Ritual dances
2. Life-Cycle dances
3. Occupational Dances
TYPES OF DANCES
"Folk” dance requires not only
an ethnic identification, but a
"participatory” and aesthetic
tradition. This dance developed by
the people on a certain or region.

expressive dance that combines
elements of several dance genres
including modern, jazz, lyrical, and
