BSBA 1-C
PE 102 RHYTMIC ACTIVITIES

Activity 1

1. Folk dance is a style of participatory dance that is both recreational and ceremonial. It is typically
traditional and done by members of the community. The steps in a folk dance are easy and repeated to
encourage as many participants as possible to participate. These dance steps are passed down from
generation to generation, which explains why the folk dance becomes a part of tradition. Also folk dancing
is not only enhances physical skills, but it also fosters an understanding and appreciation of the diversity of
our cultures.
Other people think folk dances are important because it will help to keep a culture alive. Folk dances have
been performed for hundreds of years, and it is important to keep the tradition alive. It is important because
we all recognize of preserving Philippine culture and passing it on to the next generations.
2. Some of the values derived in studying folk dance.
 Patriotism and nationalism
 Healthy form of relaxation and recreation
 Well-awakened art appreciation of folk dances
 Well-improved posture, graceful and rhythmic coordination of movements
 Preservation of native dances of the different region’s for the next generations
 Growth and enhancement of Philippine culture
3. Patriotism and nationalism
Preservation of native dances of the different region’s for the next generations

 Nationalism is demonstrated by one's love for our country, while patriotism is demonstrated by one's
patronage of what our country has to offer. As a result of learning the Philippine folk dance, it is
possible to conclude.
 The native dance of the different regions for the next generations will disappear if they are not
preserved. The entire dance world is shrinking because we can share video instantly.

4. When Ferdinand Magellan discovered the Philippines in 1521, it had been inhabited by three different
racial groups which are the Indonesians, Malays and the Pygmies. The offspring of the Pygmies were the
Negritos. The Negritos preferred dances to describe their daily activities like the dance Sinulog. It was a
dual dance where two men use bolos.
5. The Spaniards introduced different dances such as
 Fandangos
 Lanceros
 Rigodon
 Cariñosa
 Curacha
6. As a first-year college student and also love dancing, we should preserve and strengthen our folk dance by
promoting and performing it in any way possible, such as group dance competitions at school, local,
national, or international, with the help of teachers, especially in the subject of PE.
 By showing films and performing on stage, teachers will expose students to the use of indigenous
music and instruments. Physical education teachers will illustrate cultural traditions in the
neighborhood where the school is located by choreographed dances. The school should look at
different options for financing various pieces of equipment, instruments, and other materials such as
costumes and props that can be used to teach performing arts in people.
 For the advantage of students in folk performing arts, they should be encouraged to watch cultural
shows both within and outside of school. To highlight and encourage the students' talents, the school
should create a folk performing arts society or association.
 In addition, many choreographers already create "modern" folk dances in response to dancers'
demand for constantly new content (and, of course, payment to the choreographer / instructor to
teach those dances). Folk dance influenced folk music in the same way that folk music influenced
singer/songwriters who performed and composed songs "in the folk or traditional way."
