 Past Tense
is used to describe a completed activity
that happened in the past.
 Verbs used are either regular or irregular verbs.
To form the regular verb,
add either d, or ed to the verb.
Examples:
Regular verbs + d Regular verbs + ed

dance + d = danced walk + ed = walked

smile + d = smiled deliver + ed = delivered
combine + d = combined follow+ ed = followed
slice + d = sliced look+ ed = looked
race + d = raced play+ ed = played
love + d = loved print + ed = printed
 Examples
Everyone danced at the wedding last
Saturday.
Rocky followed him to the shop outside.
He delivered five news paper to them.
He looked at the map again and followed
the clear instructions.
Rocky stopped barking for a short time.
To form the irregular verb; make some changes in the
spelling particularly the vowels.

 Examples
Billy woke up at four thirty on Monday
morning.
He ate breakfast and left his house with his
bicycle and Rocky.
Billy saw two large pile of newspapers.
He looked at the map again and followed the
clear instructions.
It took about an hour and a half for Billy to
deliver all the news papers.
Be verbs, is and are, when used in the past tense become
was and were.
Examples:

She is a Grade 7 student. She was a grade 7 student

You are an excellent dancer You were an excellent student

It was still dark outside.

Everyone in the neighborhood was still asleep.
The helping verbs, do and does, when used in the past
become did.
Examples:

It does not change its color. It did not change its color.
