HFE Checklist Pilot

Project
Introduction
This project was initiated by the Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomics Section of
DOSH in May 2021 to develop a comprehensive checklist to assess human
factors and ergonomics in the workplace.
Objectives
The aim of this project is to develop a module that
• Comprehensively covers the elements of Macroergonomics, Ergonomics
through Design, Human Error Identification and Analysis (including
Cognitive Errors) and Environmental and Physical Risk Factors
• Covers the ergonomics domains: Physical, Cognitive and Organisation
• Facilitates the use and enforcement of human factors and ergonomics
principles in the workplace

Timeline
Development
The module was developed by:
• Analyzing the available literature (international standards, academic texts,
peer-reviewed journal articles, etc.) on macorergonomics, design and human
error methods.
• Discussions with experts and practitioners from various fields including
Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Industrial Design and Organisational
Psychology
• Discussions with DOSH officers to ensure alignment to current legal
requirement and enforcement processes
• User Tests at actual workplaces
Development
The final version is primarily based on :
• Ergonomics Checklist by the International Labor Organisation (ILO)
• ISO 6385:2016 – Ergonomics principles in the design of work systems
• Existing iCOP, Guidelines and DOSH checklists
Pilot Program
Methodology
• Objectives: To test the checklist
• Participants:
• 35 companies from different industries across Malaysia
• Mix of large companies and SME
Pilot Program
Methodology
• Participants are asked to complete the checklist assessment for 1-2 work
activities prior to the site visit
• During the site visit, the project team and DOSH officers will go through the
completed checklist and verify the stated evidences
• This is to identify any weaknesses in the checklist and the process of
assessment
• On the 2nd day of the site visit, feedback will be collected from all
participants
