Group 8 of the Periodic Table

The noble gases

What are the noble
gases?
The noble gases are chemical elements with similar
properties; that being they are odorless, colorless, and very
low chemical reactivity.

The six naturally occurring noble gases are:

 Helium (He),  Krypton (Kr)

 Neon (Ne),  Xenon (Xe)
 Argon (Ar),  Radon (Rn)
HELIUM:
What is Helium?
It is a gas that is lighter than air, no-toxic, and is the first of the
noble gases in the periodic table.

Uses of Helium:
It can be used to lift meteorological balloons into the atmosphere, these
balloons help carry equipment to collect information for weather forecasts.
Sometimes helium is mixed with oxygen to help divers breathe underwater
for exploration.
NEON:
What is Neon?
It is a gas that produces a glowing red light when electric currents
flow through it.

Uses of Neon:
It can be used for lights in advertisements to help light it up, so it can be
more eye-catching and bright.
ARGON:
What is Argon?
It is the most common noble gas making up nearly a percentage of
the earth’s atmosphere.

Uses of Argon:
It is used in wire-filament light bulbs. Argon is used because, if it were
oxygen it would react with the hot tungsten wire inside the bulbs and the
filament would break.
Argon is also used to make germanium crystals and silicon for electronics.
KRYPTON:
What is Krypton?
It is the 36th element by the atomic numbers.

Uses of Krypton:
It is used for lamps that have to produce light at a high intensity, like the
ones used in airport landings and light houses.
XENON:
What is Xenon?
It is the 54th element by the atomic numbers.

Uses of Xenon:
It is used for the bright lights in a photographers gun.
