 In 2000 there were about 310.000


marriages in the UK,one of the lowest
numbers in the 20th century.
 In 2016there were 280000 marriages.
 The explanation is the increasing
prevailance of cohabitation.
 Increase in the number of one-person-
households.
The birth-rate

 The birth-rate reflects a


preference for smaller families.
Many women are postponing
having children until their late 20s or 30s.
The total fertility rate for the UK is 1,65 per
woman.
Migration
 About 10 million people emigrated from the
British Isles in the 2nd half of the 19th
century.The reasons were the
impoverishment of
peasants,craftsmen,great famine in Ireland
in 1845-1849.

Religion
 Christianity is the predominant religious
tradition in the UK.
 There are also large Muslim,Hindu,Jewish,Sikh
communities.
 There also Bahais,Buddhists, Jains and
Zoroastrians
 Conflict between church and State culminated
the act of Supremacy in 1534,which repudiated
papal supremacy and declared Henry VII to be
the Supreme Head of the Church of England.

• The population of NI is 2 mln.
• The capital of NI is Belfast(631000)
• About 54 % of the population of NI regard
themselves as protestants and 42% as Roman
Catholics.
• NI has a younger population with
proportionality more children and fewer
pensioners.
