01 The Problem
The Problem
● Greenhouse gas emissions decrease carbonate ion
concentration
○ Oysters, coral, clams, and more suffer
● 14% of all coral reefs died in the last 10 years.
○ Attributed to ocean acidification
● Ocean is not getting less acidic
02 The Solution
The Solution
● Our Solution is Micro Algae Farms
○ It decreases Carbon Dioxide (CO2) levels
○ Increases Oxygen (O2) levels
● Micro Algae brings Oxygen to the Deep Ocean
○ Brings roughly around 10 gigatons to the
deep ocean
03 Potential Challenges
Potential Challenges
● Abiotic factors need to be carefully regulated
● Microalgae farming is a relatively new practice
○ Needs more research and technology to be
most effective
● Funding on Maui
04 Impact
Impact
● Reduced CO2 concentration in the ocean
○ Broken into bicarbonate atoms
● More stable pH levels
● Secondary application
○ Wastewater treatment, biofuel, etc.
