Birth control pills are a type of contraception that's 99%
effective at preventing pregnancy when taken consistently
every day. The pill contains hormones that regulate
menstruation, decrease PMS symptoms, lower the risk of
ovarian and uterine cancers, improve acne and treat
endometriosis.

against sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and
unwanted pregnancy. Condoms are barrier
contraceptive made from latex rubber, a synthetic
rubber called polyisoprene, a very thin plastic
called polyurethane, or a synthetic material called
nitrile.
SHORT TERM METHODS

• Lactation amenorrhea method (LAM)

prevent pregnancy. It must be used correctly to
work. Lactation means “your body is making
breastmilk” and amenorrhea means “you aren't
having a monthly period.”

• Contraceptive injection
is a type of contraception (birth control). The
injection contains a hormone called Depot
Medroxyprogesterone Acetate (DMPA), which is
like the hormone progesterone. To prevent
pregnancy, birth control injections must be given
every 3 months.
LONG TERM METHODS

• Contraceptive implant (Nexplanon)

is a small flexible plastic rod that's placed
under the skin in your upper arm by a doctor
or nurse. It releases the hormone progestogen
into your bloodstream to prevent pregnancy
and lasts for 3 years.
LONG TERM METHODS

• Intrauterine device (IUD)

is a form of birth control that a healthcare
provider inserts into your uterus. Once it's
inserted, an IUD can prevent pregnancy for
up to 10 years or more, depending on the
specific type. Your provider can remove
your IUD at any time if you decide to
become pregnant
PERMANENT METHODS
PERMANENT METHODS

Female sterilization
is an outpatient surgical procedure. The procedure blocks the
fallopian tubes, preventing eggs from travelling down the tubes
to the uterus and blocking sperm from fertilizing the egg.
PERMANENT METHODS

Male sterilization
A vasectomy (male sterilisation) is a surgical procedure to cut or seal the
tubes that carry a man's sperm to permanently prevent pregnancy. The
testes still make sperm, but the sperm die and are absorbed by the body.
A man who has had a vasectomy still makes semen and is able to
ejaculate. But the semen doesn't contain sperm. The testosterone level
and all other male sex traits stays the same.
