APPLICATION LETTER
Definition
• A job application letter is a letter that you write to
a company when you are applying for a job.

• A job application letter is called a cover letter.

• Social Function is to make the employer interested


and call you for an interview.
Expressions

The following are some expressions or phrases usually used in writing job
application letters.

Opening
I am writing in reply to your advertisement in........

Talking about experience and qualifications

curriculum vitae.
Grammatical Feature

A typical application letter is not more than one page long.


When we write a job application letter, we usually use:
1. Simple Present Tense
2. Simple Past Tense
(when we are talking about our education and last experience.)
3. Simple Present Perfect
(when we write about unfinished actions that started in the past
and continue to the present)
Some tips in writing a job application letter.

1. Be friendly and professional


2. Be enthusiastic but do not beg.
3. Use simple and natural language
4. Use positive words and phrases
5. Make your letter short and to the point,
but interesting to read
