PASSIVE VOICE

Active voice : subyek menunjuk pada orang atau benda


yang melakukan kegiatan.
- Columbus invented America
- The explorer have found gold
Passive voice : subyek menunjuk pada orang atau
benda yang menerima tindakan (baik pelakunya
diketahui atau tidak atau pelakunya sudah jelas).
- America was invented by Columbus
- Gold has been found by the explore
- She was killed last night (pelaku tidak diketahui)
- English is spoken all over the world (pelakunya sudah
jelas yaitu people)
Jika kalimat aktif ada 2 obyek (langsung dan tidak
langsung) bisa diubah dengan 2 cara:
The guide will show you the museum
The museum will be shown to you by the guide.
You will be shown the museum by the guide.
The policeman gave him a medal
A medal was given to him by the policeman
He was given a medal by the policeman
Present tense:
Miss Nadel is driven to work by her driver each day
Present modal:
Children should be taught good behavior
Present continuous:
We can’t cool the room because the air-conditioner is
being repaired
Present perfect:
 Pilot lay-offs have been caused by the substantial
reduction of flight
Past tense :
“The history of Western Philosophy” was written by
Bertrand Russell
Past modal:
Ordinarily, the room would have been cleaned but the
janitor was ill yesterday
Past continuous:
The new drapes were being hung when the visitior
showed up
Past perfect:
 The outcome of election was announced before all the
votes had been counted.
Future tense:
The game will be canceled if it rains
Future modal:
The teacher said the report must be done by Monday
Future expression:
I expect to be told about the new publication soon
Future perfect:
 The cable that Mrs. Rabin has sent will have been
received by the time she boards the plane
CAUSATIVE PASSIVE VOICE
 Passive voice sesuatu dilakukan pada subyek, causative passive
voice sesuatu dilakukan pada obyek.
 Menggunakan kata kerja have, get dan make, untuk
menunjukkan bahwa subyek meminta orang lain untuk
melakukan sesuatu pada obyek.
Causative Verbs:
- John got Mary to clean up the kitchen (persuading)
- Mary had John to vacuum the carpet (asking)
- I made both of them take a break from the housework
(enforcement)
Causative Passive Voice:
- I had my hair cut, and my suit dry cleaned
- I got my car repaired and my watch fixed
