Newton’s Three Laws of
Motion
The First Law Of Motion
"A body at rest will remain at rest, and a body in motion will remain in motion unless it is acted
upon by an external force." Isaac Newton (Lucas 2017)

Explanation:
There must be an unbalance force from outside to make an object move, stop or move in
different direction.

("st law of motion")

Newton’s Three Laws of
Motion
The Second Law Of Motion
"The force acting on an object is equal to the mass of that object times its acceleration." This is
written in mathematical form as F = ma, where F is force, m is mass, and a is acceleration.
Isaac Newton (Lucas 2017)

Explanation:
Unbalanced force will lead to acceleration of an object. Net force applied is directly proportional
to acceleration F⋉A, and mass is inversely proportional to acceleration F ⋉ 1/M.

("2nd law")
Newton’s Three Laws of
Motion
The Third Law Of Motion
"For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction."
Isaac Newton (Lucas 2017)

Explanation:
If an object pushes second one, then that object will push back with the same force.

(Alain 13)
Physics and Golf

1. A golf ball placed on a tee tends to stay on not to move. It happens

due to Newton`s first law of motion. A ball on a tee is affected by
balanced force. The earth gravity is pulling down a ball and tee is
pushing a ball up. It makes net force equal to 0.
2. A hit by a golf club acts as an external force on a ball. There is no
opposite force to balance , so a ball starts to move.
3. A flying ball will fall down as earth gravity pulls it.
4. Gravity acts like an external force.
5. Friction of a grass makes ball stop rolling.
6. The force is unbalanced.
("Science of Golf: Newton's First and Second Laws") (Milling)
Physics and Golf

1. The second law is about velocity change of a ball.

2. A large force by a golf club is applied to a small golf ball with a small
mass increases acceleration of a ball. a=f/m ("Science of Golf: Newton's First
and Second Laws")
3. force is measured in Newtons (N)
4. “ The United States Golf Association (USGA) set restrictions on the
weight and size of the golf ball. The weight of the ball should not
exceed 1.620 ounces (0.04593 kg) and must have a diameter of at
least 1.680 inches. This means that if a golf ball strikes a solid surface
at a speed of 10 m/s it must rebound at a speed of 6 m/s.” (Elert 1999)
5. In order to reach higher acceleration, a swing speed must be as high
as possible.
Physics and Golf

1. A golf club hits a ball with the force,in average with 22.5N, then a ball
will react back with the same force, but in different direction. (Elert 2001)

2. A ball has lower mass, so it has higher velocity . A club has higher
mass and lover velocity. That means a ball accelerates more faster
and mover far.
