Different Ways of
Moving Objects
Introduction
There are different ways of moving objects.
Some ways to make objects move, can be
by pushing, pulling, throwing, kicking,
tossing, blowing, and dropping them.
However, if you look closely at the
different ways to make an object move,
they can only be grouped into two –
pushing and pulling.
Force is introduced as a push or a pull.
The strength from the muscles of
human being causes an object to move.

When you make an object move, you

are either pushing it or pulling it. The
push or pull is called force. When you
push an object, whether it moves or
not, you are exerting force.
Like what the boy is
doing in the picture,
the force he applies
make the toy car move
away from him. This is
called a push.

Push is a force applied

on an object to make it
move away from you.
The next picture is a
child pulling a cart.
The cart moves
toward the boy. This
is called a pull.

Pull is a force applied

on an object to make
it move closer to you.
Look and study the pictures. Identify whether each
action is a push or a pull.
