Respect for others
⚫ Receiving respect from others is important because it helps us
to feel safe and to express ourselves.

⚫ Respect means that you accept somebody for who they are,
even when they’re different from you or you don’t agree with
them.

⚫ Respect in your relationships builds feelings of trust, safety,


and well-being.

⚫ Respect doesn’t have to come naturally – it is something you


learn.

⚫ Being respected by important people in our lives while


growing up teaches us how to be respectful towards others.
Living Peacefully

⚫ Living in peace is about living harmoniously with


yourself, others, and all sentient beings around you.

⚫ While you will find your own meanings of peaceful


existence according to your beliefs and lifestyle, there are
some basics underpinning living in peace that cannot be
overlooked, such as being non-violent, being tolerant,
holding moderate views etc.
Principles of Peaceful Living

⚫ Respecting others and appreciating differences.


⚫ Be forgiving and giving benefit of doubt.
⚫ Not interfering unless absolutely necessary or asked for.
⚫ Giving credit for others’ works
⚫ Adapting to circumstances
⚫ Engaging in worthwhile goals.
⚫ Ensuring basic needs of everyone without mindless
exploitation.
⚫ Nurture a genuine love for all living beings.
Caring, Sharing & Honesty
⚫ Caring is having and expressing concern and feelings
about others and their feelings and well being. It
shouldn’t be limited for one’s family or friends but
should embrace entire humanity.

⚫ Sharing is an act which comes without any


compulsion and shouldn’t be done to curry favor
something. One should share Knowledge, Facilities,
Goods, Experience etc. for the collective growth of the
society.

⚫ Honesty is the trait of adhering to truth even when it’s


inconvenient and unpopular. It is upheld as one of the
most revered virtues across cultures and societies.
Courage
⚫ Contrary to the popular conception, courage is not the
absence of fear. It is the ability to face the fear and do
something in spite of being afraid. It is the willingness to
confront pain, agony and uncertainty for something we
believe in.
Types of Courage
⚫ Courage as a part of duty- Putting your safety second to
someone else’s.
⚫ Courage to face physical challenges- Convictions and
beliefs making yourself ready to face any kind of physical
torture.
⚫ Courage in a social context- the courage to raise your
voice for freedom, equality and against discrimination.
⚫ Intellectual Courage-Courage to seek and speak the truth
even if it upsets prevailing beliefs and usurps existing
conventions.
Cooperation
⚫ Cooperation is the process of individuals or organizations
working together towards the accomplishment of common
objectives. It ensures better output, quality and efficiency.

⚫ Lack of Cooperation leads to absence of coordination,


insufficient communication, low morale among members
and collapse of the community, society or the organization.

⚫ Causes for lack of cooperation includes absence of effective


leadership and professionalism, ego conflicts, ethnic,
linguistic, gender or socio-cultural differences etc.
Valuing Time
⚫ Unlike old days, when life was simpler and slower, people
today find in increasingly difficult to manage their time.
Someone who is not able to manage their time is not
trusted with keeping his word or valuing other people’s
time.
Ways to utilize time effectively

⚫ Know that time is a perishable resource


⚫ Get your priorities right
⚫ Be punctual
⚫ Avoid re-inventing the wheel
⚫ Plan in advance
⚫ Get rid of procrastination
Commitment
⚫ The quality of holding on to a cause that one believes in,
in spite of difficulties and setback with fervent attitude
and sustained interest is called commitment
⚫ Commitment in an organizational context refers to the
dedication of an employee to his job and to the
organizational goals while adhering to ethical principles.
Components of Organizational
commitment
⚫ Affective Commitment- Commitment due to affection

⚫ Continuance Commitment-Commitment out of fear of


losing the job.

⚫ Normative Commitment-Commitment out of moral


obligation towards the position one holds.
Empathy
⚫ It is the ability and willingness to imagine oneself in
another’s place and see through their perspective.

⚫ A person who empathizes with others will feel,


understand and accept their emotions, motives and
concerns.

⚫ Empathy enhances pro-social and altruistic behavior.


Self Confidence
⚫ Self Confidence is the quality of believing in oneself and
one’s abilities. It encompasses two separate traits. Self
Esteem and Self Efficacy.

⚫ Self Esteem is one’s innate sense of self worth.

⚫ Self Efficacy is the belief in one’s own capacity to


perform.
