CHAPTER 1 – Introduction of CAD 1
WHAT IS INDUSTRIAL DRAWING?
Industrial Drawing is a discipline that involves creating technical drawings and
schematics used in the manufacturing and production of various products. It is a critical
part of the design and engineering process, allowing designers and engineers to
communicate their ideas and specifications to manufacturers and fabricators.
Industrial drawing requires a deep understanding of drafting principles, including
geometric construction, projection, and visualization, as well as knowledge of the
materials and manufacturing processes involved in producing the final product. With the
rise of computer-aided design (CAD) software, industrial drawing has evolved to
incorporate digital tools and techniques, making it a highly specialized field with a wide
range of career opportunities.
WHAT IS AUTOCAD?
Computer-Aided Design (CAD) or Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD)
can be defined as using computer systems to assist in the creation, modification, analysis
of 2D and 3D models, or optimization of a design.
CAD software is used to increase the productivity of the designer, improve the
quality of design, improve communications through documentation, and create a
database for manufacturing.
CAD is an important industrial art extensively used in many applications,
including automotive, shipbuilding, and aerospace industries, industrial and
architectural design, prosthetics, and many more.
AutoCAD is an industry-leading commercial CAD software. AutoCAD is used by
AEC (Architecture, Engineer, and Construction) to generate and optimize 2D and 3D
designs. AutoCAD is a widely used software program that can help you draft
construction documentation, explore design ideas, visualize concepts through
photorealistic renderings, and simulate how a design performs in the real world.

AutoCAD was first released in December 1982 as a desktop app. In 2010,

AutoCAD was released as a mobile- and web app, marketed as AutoCAD 360. (Autodesk
and AutoCAD). AutoCAD is 2D and 3D modeling Software. It is developed by Autodesk
company. Autodesk is an USA based in industry for 2D drawing and 3D modeling. In
another way we can say that AutoCAD is a designing course, which is performed by the
help of Computer.
