Exploring Affective Factors in

Second
Language Acquisition
Welcome to our presentation on the affective factors that influence second language acquisition. Join us
on a journey to discover how personal and emotional factors can shape language learning outcomes.
THE AFFECTIVE DOMAIN AND SELF-
ESTEEM
Five-step process proposed by an educational phycologist named Benjamin Bloom

Emotional Awareness: It begins with becoming aware of our surroundings and giving attention to
certain things.

Voluntary Response: We voluntarily engage with what we've noticed, often finding satisfaction in our
responses.

Forming Beliefs: We start to see the worth of objects, behaviors, or people and develop beliefs and
attitudes about them.

Organizing Values: These beliefs become organized into a system of values, and we establish a
hierarchy among them.

Self-ldentity: Over time, we develop a self-identity based on our values and beliefs, guiding our
actions and worldview

THREE LEVELS OF SELF STEEM:

1- Global self steem: Stable self-worth across situations.

2- Situational Self-Steem: varies by context (work, education, skills).

3- Task Self-Steem: Specific to certain tasks(academin, sport, skills).

Attribution Theory and Self-
Efficacy
Ability: This is about how good you are at something.
Effort: This is how hard you try.

Task Difficulty: This refers to how hard something is.

Luck: This refers to the external factors that influence the outcome of a
task or situation.
