The Prevention and Safety Authority in the Emirate of Sharjah


was established in 2014, based on Emiri Decree No. 55 of 2014
issued by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al
Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah
Strategic goals
• Maintain community safety and asset sustainability and raising the level of
occupational safety and health culture in the Emirate of Sharjah.

• Provide an attractive safety environment for investors and strengthening


partnerships with various entities.

• Employ modern technologies and provide infrastructure services to


enhance the integration, interdependence and quality of operations.

It is a system that enhances a healthy, safe, sustainable work environment, particularly free from causes of accidents, injuries, or

The objective of the system
• To ensure that business activities within the Emirate of Sharjah are carried out in a manner that guarantees the safety and health of all workers,
residents, and visitors in the Emirate of Sharjah.

• To provide a guide for government entities and private establishments on the minimum requirements for occupational safety and health.

• To ensure that the government of Sharjah that government entities and private establishments operating within the Emirate do not pose a risk to
the residents, workers, and reputation of the Emirate.

INCIDENTS REPORTING

Reporting incidents is an integral part of any effective occupational Safety and health system, as it helps
identify hazards and risks that threaten workplace safety and health. The purpose of reporting incidents and
conducting investigations is to prevent injury and ill health in the workplace and to improve risk management
overall.

This Code of Practice (COP) has been developed to provide


information to entities to assist them in complying with the
requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health System in
Sharjah specifically to those requirements related to managing
construction activities.
The CoP covers Four main aspects which are categorized into

Training
The principal contractor shall ensure every employee receives
induction training in languages and in a format that employees
understand, prior to being allowed onto project sites to perform
work activities.
Emergency Preparedness and Response
Construction sites can be dangerous places and should have an emergency plan so that quick and effective action can be
taken in the event of an emergency to ease the severity of the situation and to limit the consequences. An emergency
plan comprises of agreed, recorded and rehearsed strategies, enabling those on site to respond effectively and reliably.

• Fire: There shall be adequate and appropriate equipment,


facilities and personnel available to respond to fire
emergencies.

• First Aid: There shall be adequate and appropriate


equipment, facilities and personnel to provide first aid to
employees if they are injured or become ill at work
