In Chapter 3, the key characteristics of analog communication systems such as time-domain representations, frequency-domain representations, bandwidth requirements, and power content were studied. Angle-modulation systems like FM can provide high noise immunity in severe noise environments but require more channel bandwidth than amplitude-modulation systems.

• We studied the important characteristics of analog communication
systems. • These characteristics included 1. time-domain and frequency-domain representations of the modulated signal, 2. bandwidth requirements, and power content of the modulated signal and, 3. finally, modulator and demodulator implementation of various analog communication systems. • We will see, angle-modulation systems and particularly FM, can provide a high degree of noise immunity, and therefore are desirable in cases of severe noise and/or low signal power. • This noise immunity is obtained at the price of sacrificing channel bandwidth because, the bandwidth requirements of angle-modulation systems is considerably higher than amplitude-modulation systems.
