• It was after the murder of Ninoy Aquino and before Marcos announce a
snap election. Isagani R. Cruz was part of a group doing a video on
Ninoy to be shown underground to Filipinos, so that people would know
exactly why he was such a threat to Marcos that he had to be shot at the
airport. Isagani have so many memories of those days. Here's one:
FASHION GENERAL
A few months later, Marcos announced the snap election. Of course.
wrote Cory's first speeches, including the proclamation speech at
Liwasang Bonifacio. Isagani wrote all the speeches in Filipino. One
afternoon, when Cory and Isagani were again alone in her office, she
asked Isagani, "Do you think I should be running for president?"
"Ma'am, you will make a great president." Isagani said
unhesitating.

FASHION GENERAL
"Promise me," she said, "that if I become president, you will
break through my cordon sanitaire

"I promise, ma'am." Isagani said.

Reasons for using Vernacular Instructions include:

• it's being psychologically and economically sound

FASHION GENERAL
• it's being a positive move of maintaining language and
cultural identities
• instilling pride in ones own heritage, and
• getting the child to a good start in cognitive learning in
school
• Unschooled parents will be able to assist in their child school
learning if they share a common language with their children .

• In the matter of choosing a national language, It was not only

FASHION GENERAL
that not all the regional languages could qualify as the national
or official language or main MOI in the schools, but also that in
large part the choice was full of political pitfalls thus making
decisions extremely difficult. At the time that a national policy
was instituted, it was thought that with English serving as
unifying language, no regional language would surface above
all the others.
•The approach in many countries today in Asia, Africa, South
America and Europe is to promote MT instruction in

literacy skills toward second language learning and cognitive
learning, in general.

• mother tongue teaching has provided a positive non-

threatening learning environment for students, and the feeling
that they are making progress in English .
• This seemed to be the wis- dom that guided the choice
of English and it came to pass that an-all English
curriculum was followed from the grades up to the
secondary and tertiary levels.
FASHION GENERAL
• Then, not soon after, a tide of nationalism emerged. An
overarching desire to incorporate an indigenous
language as another language of in- struction besides
English was expressed.
• Non-Tagalog Filipino learners face two language "obstacles",
that is two second languages to learn: English and Filipino

FASHION GENERAL
• Highlighting the crucial roles of English as the acknowledged
language of Language of Wider Communication and the
language of the Digital Age, of the internet, among others will
be helpful.

•It is also envisioned to allow students to attain skills, knowledge and
qualification for certain jobs that do not necessarily require a full four or
five-year college degree. Example is the Nursing course in the United
States, where several levels of training and education are available. There is
the Nursing Aide certificate, the Licensed Practical Nurse, Registered

Nurse, and the Bachelor of Science in Nursing-all are attainable within
varying periods of time, from 2 years to 5 years, depending on the student's
course load. This approach allows students access to employment
opportunities within a shorter period, and providing the options for higher
levels of study in order to advance their career in their chosen profession.
•Another example is the modular offering of courses that can eventually
lead to the attainment of a diploma in a particular field.
