WHAT IS TORQUE ?
Torque is the measure of the force that can cause an object to rotate about an axis. It
is also known as the moment of force.
Torque is the rotational equivalent of linear force.
WHAT IS SENSOR ?
A sensor is a device that detects and responds to some type of input from the physical
environment. The input can be light, heat, motion, moisture, pressure or any number of
other environmental phenomena. The output is generally a signal that is converted to a
human-readable display at the sensor location or transmitted electronically over a
network for reading or further processing.
TORQUE SENSOR
Torque sensors are devices for measuring and recording the torque on rotating
systems such as Motor, Generator and Machines. These are often used in
industrial and technical application

SAW sensors work by converting an input electrical signal into a mechanical wave. The
wave can then be easily influenced by physical phenomena. The device then converts
the wave back into an electrical signal. This is also called as TMR Technology Tunnel

When torque is applied, the magnetic moments inside the shaft are reoriented, causing a
magnetic flux to develop around outside circumference of the shaft. The strength of the
magnetic field flux is linearly proportional to the stress and therefore, the torque on the
shaft, and the polarity of the magnetic field indicates the direction of torque. Magnetic field
sensors positioned around the shaft determine the amount and direction of torque based on
this flux.

These sensors use light to measure Torque. A beam of light is sent through a fiber
optic cable wrapped around the shaft. The light’s polarization changes as the shaft
twists, which can be measured and converted into a torque reading.
The angle of twist on the shaft between its ends is measured by using optical means.
The angular deflection of light rays is proportional to twist and hence the torque.

APPLICATIONS
Aerospace industry to track an aircraft engine's torque
The engine's performance is tracked using this data, and fuel economy is
optimized.
With technological improvements and a rising need for accuracy and precision in
industrial processes, the future of torque sensors in the industry seems bright. Due to
the increasing demand for sensors that can fit in small spaces and offer precise
readings, miniature torque sensors that can be incorporated into smaller gadgets and
components may become more prevalent.
