Problem Statement
Plastic bottles waste is creating substantial environmental
problems due to its non-biodegradable nature. Plastic bottle
waste is an escalating global crisis due to overflowing landfills,
contaminating oceans, and creating harmful microplastics. When
plastic bottles are burned they release toxic fumes causing harm
to both the environment and our health. It causes the death of
more than a million seabirds every year.
It is need to recycle for the reduction of plastic waste.

Aim and Objectives

Aim
To fabricate 3D printer filament from waste bottles

Objectives
• To recycle waste bottles
• To make 3D printer filament

Methodology
The methodology involves collecting and preparing waste plastic bottles by removing caps and
cutting them into uniform strips, ensuring cleanliness and label removal. The sorted plastic
strips are then preheated with a heat gun to a temperature suitable for the plastic material. The
heated strips are carefully shaped into filament-like forms with uniform thickness through
pulling or rolling. After shaping, the filament is allowed to cool and solidify on a flat, heat-
resistant surface. Following this, the cooled filament is tested by feeding it into a 3D printer
with necessary adjustments made to printer settings for optimal performance. Once tested any
uneven sections are trimmed and the finished filament is coiled onto a spool for convenient
storage and future 3D printing endeavors. This innovative approach transforms waste plastic
bottles into a practical and sustainable material for 3D printing applications.
