2
Objective:
• The objective of this experiment is to design and implement a motion
detection system using an Arduino microcontroller, a Passive Infrared
(PIR) sensor, and an LED. The system should detect motion using the
PIR sensor, print a corresponding message on the serial monitor, and
activate an LED to indicate motion detection.

3
Theoretical Background:
• Passive Infrared (PIR) sensors are electronic devices that detect
infrared radiation emitted by moving objects. The sensor consists of a
pyroelectric sensor, which generates a voltage when exposed to
infrared radiation changes. In this experiment, the PIR sensor is
utilized to detect changes in the infrared radiation pattern caused by
motion within its field of view.

4
Experimental Principle:
• The PIR sensor operates by detecting changes in the infrared radiation
in its surroundings. When motion is detected, the sensor generates a
voltage signal, which is read by the Arduino. The Arduino,
programmed with the appropriate code, responds to the motion
signal by printing "Motion detected" on the serial monitor and
activating the LED.

6
Conclusions:
• In conclusion, the experiment successfully demonstrated the
functionality of a motion detection system using a PIR sensor and an
Arduino microcontroller. The system effectively detected motion,
printed the corresponding message on the serial monitor, and
activated the LED as intended. The experiment provided hands-on
experience with sensor interfacing and programming, reinforcing the
understanding of PIR sensor principles and Arduino applications. The
recorded data indicated the system's reliability and responsiveness to
motion events, validating its practical utility in various applications
such as security systems and automation.
