Dhanusha district

 Dhanusha is one of the leading fish farming districts of Nepal with increasing numbers of
farmers involved in commercial fish farming.

 According to the data of 2078/79,production of fish 9152.8 mt annually


(PMAMP,PIU,Dhanusha 2022).
Objectives of study

 To study the status of fish market


 To know the pricing mechanism of fish at different levels
 To identify marketing problems faced by farmers, traders and other associated groups
Materials and methods

 Study area
7 major fish markets of Dhanusha named Maccha bajar(Basahaiya road),Kuwa bajar, Railway
station, Pidari chowk bajar of Janakpurdham submetropolitan city and Sakhuwa road bajar,
Mahendranagr chowk, Hariharpur bajar of Chhireswornath municipality were selected for the
study.

Before selection as study area a discussion was made with officials of PMAMP, FHRDTVC,
Tropical Horticulture Nursery Centre , local leaders, based on market history number of fish
retailers, duration of marketing season and time.
Methodology
 The data was collected for 1 week in various markets
 Questionnaire was prepared and interviewed with fish traders

 For questionnaire survey, fish traders were selected through simple random
sampling method.
 Interviews were conducted at the market center during marketing time.
 Traders took part in interview together with their fish selling activities as a result
there was a scope to observe the marketing activities.
 Time required for each interview was about an hour.
Data processing and analysis

 After collection of data from the field, these were verified to eliminate errors and
inconsistencies.
 Some of the collected data were in local units due to respondent's familiarity with those
units.
 Preliminary data sheets were compared with the original questionnaire and result sheets to
ensure the accuracy of the data entry.
 Data were processed and finally analyzed using Microsoft Excel Software

Pricing of different fishes in market
It was found that price of fish varied due to number of factors like season, location of
sale, size and species of fish and production of fish.

Conclusion and recommendation

 It can be concluded that creating a well-organized market and


enhancing transportation infrastructure, implementing marketing
channels developed by the government, and ensuring cleanliness are
crucial for enhancing, standardizing, and making the marketing
system more efficient.
