N A Z I L AT U R R I S K I YA H , S . P D
S M A N 1 PA M E K A S A N
DEFINITION
The passive voice is used to show interest in the
person or object that experiences an action rather than the
person or object that performs the action. In other words, the
most important thing or person becomes the subject of the
sentence.
(Passive voice adalah suatu bentuk kalimat dimana
subjek kalimat menerima aksi, bukan melakukan aksi. Tidak
seperti active voice yang fokus terhadap pihak yang melakukan
aksi (doer of action), bentuk ini lebih berfokus kepada pihak
atau objek yang menerima hasil dari suatu aksi tersebut
(receiver of action).

• Switching the place of the Object as the Subject in a

sentence.
• Making the Object as the Subject in a sentence.
ACTIVE VS PASSIVE
• I eat a piece of cake. (Aku makan
sepotong kue.)
• The man in blue coat is holding his
girlfriend’s clutch. (Cowok yang
berjaket biru sedang memegang tas
pacarnya.)

• A piece of cake is eaten by me.

(Sepotong kue dimakan oleh ku.)
• His girlfriend’s clutch is being held by
the man in blue coat. (Tas pacarnya
sedang dipegang oleh cowok yang
berjaket biru.)
HOW TO MAKE PASSIVE VOICE?
To make the passive, we have to put the verb 'to be' into
whatever tense we need and then adding the past participle.
For regular verbs, we make the past participle by adding 'ed' to
the infinitive.
