Simple Past
• Digunakan untuk menjelaskan kejadian yang terjadi di masa lampau
dan telah selesai di masa lampau.

Example:
I walked to school yesterday
She wrote the letter last night
Formula
(+) Subject + Verb 2
(-) Subject + aux (did) + not + verb 1
(?) Aux (did) + subject + verb 1

Example :
(+) She ate banana two weeks ago
(-) She did not eat banana two weeks ago
(+) Did she eat banana two weeks ago?
Keterangan waktu simple past
• Yesterday
• Last night, last week, last month, last year.
• A year, a week, two years, two weeks, a month, two months…..ago
(+) I went to Yogyakarta with my friends last week.
(-) Dion did not win the speech contest two days ago
(?) Did they do the Math exam yesterday?
(+) Sinta and Sindi were at the school library yesterday afternoon
(-) He did not send a letter to his friends last Sunday.

Subject + was/were + verb + ing

Past progressive digunakan untuk mengindikasikan:


1. Kejadian yang terjadi masa lampau dan terganggu dengan kegiatan yang
lain
Formula :
When + subject 1 + simple past + subject 2 + past progressive
Subject 1 + past progressive + when + subject 2 + simple past
Example
• When Mark came home, Martha was watching Korean drama.
• Martha was watching Korean drama when Mark came home
2. Dua kejadian yang terjadi secara bersamaan di waktu lampau

Formula :
Subject 1 + past progressive + while + subject 2 + past progressive
While + subject 1 + past progressive + subject 2 + past progressive

Example:
Martha was reading while John was eating
While Martha was reading, John was eating.
