When do we use quantifiers?

We use quantifiers to talk about quantities of food.

There’s some salad in the fridge, but there


isn’t any cheese.

There weren’t many bananas, but there were


a lot of grapes.

We’ve got too much juice and we haven’t got


enough sandwiches.

Read the text. Which quantifiers come before
countable nouns? Which come before uncountable
nouns?

My dad eats enough vegetables and he doesn’t eat


many sweets. But he eats too many chips and too
much cheese, and he doesn’t drink enough water.
Everyone else in my family is healthy. We eat some
fish, but we don’t eat much meat, and we don’t eat
any chocolate or any sweets. We usually have a
lot of salad or peas with our dinner and some
grapes or other fruit for pudding.

Circle the correct words in the restaurant review.

Stewie’s Steakhouse looks nice but it’s very small. There are too 1many / much tables so there isn’t

some / much space – you feel like you’re eating in a phone box! There aren’t 3many / much things on the

menu and there aren’t 4some / any vegetarian dishes, so there’s nothing that vegetarians can eat. My food
