MOLE CONCEPT and

MOLAR MASS
MELC

Use the mole concept to express mass

of substances S9MT-IIi- 19
Recap

• How do we define mole?

• What is the value of a mole?
Objectives:

• Solve for the molar mass of a substance

• Determine the number of particles using
the given number of moles of the substance
• Recognize the significance of the mole
concept in some fields/industries

Let’s Play a Game!!

“Mole Bingo Quiz Bee”

Game Mechanics
1. You will be divided into 8 teams. Each team will be
provided with 1 Mole Bingo card, 1 flag, and 10 cardboard
chips. The teacher will project randomly selected problems
on mole and molar mass. Once the problem is shown, each
team will be given a maximum of 90 seconds to finish
solving the problem. The first to finish has to raise their flag
and show their answer. If they get the answer correctly, they
will place a chip on their Bingo card which corresponds to
their answer.
Game Mechanics

2. If nobody gets the correct answer, another problem

will be shown. This process will continue until one of
the teams gets a horizontal, vertical or diagonal
pattern on their Bingo card. That team will be
declared as the winner.

Let’s Ponder

“How did you find the game? Was it easy or

hard to get the correct answer? Why/why not?”
Deepen
The mole concept and molar mass are used in determining the concentrations
of various substances in patient samples. Further, the mole (particularly
millimoles) is a commonly used unit in medicine. For example,
concentrations of intravenous solutions and drugs are expressed in terms of
moles.
Religious and Cultural Links
Similarly, the mole concept and molar mass can be related on how the Muslim people categorize
foods (e.g., fermented foods) as Halal (lawful/ permitted) or haram (prohibited).
