FIBROUS JOINT
WHAT IS FIBROUS JOINT ?
- - the joints in which the bones are connected by fibrous tissue
- - fixed or immovable joints
- - don’t have a joint cavity
- - fibrous tissue which connects the bones made up of collage fibres

1. SUTURES

• Found between all the bones of the


skull except mandible
• Junctions between adjacent skull
bones
• Non-fused in babies ( partially
movable )
2. GOMPHOSIS

• Provides firm suspension for


each tooth
• Peg-and-socket joints for teeth
• Periodontal ligaments connect
roots of teeth to sockets
• Slightly movable
3. SYNDESMOSIS

• Remaining fibrous joints


• Present in forearm (radius and
ulna ) & leg ( tibia and fibula )
• Connected by interosseous
membrane
• Firm to lock the ankle joint for
weight-bearing and stability
