1. Parable of the Talents
Matthew 25:14-30
Ang talinghagang pinag-uusapan ay ang tungkol sa
taong mayaman na nagbigay ng mga talento sa tatlo sa
kanyang mga alipin at pagkatapos ay naglalakbay. Sa
kanyang pagbabalik, natuklasan nya na ang alipin na
binigyan niya ng limang talento ay namuhunan gamit
ito at namunga, ang aliping binigyan niya ng tatlong
talento ay ganun din ang ginawa. Ngunit nalaman niya,
sa kanyang pagkadismaya, na ang alipin na
pinagkatiwalaan niya ng isang talento ay ibinaon
lamang ang kayamanan at hindi nakakuha ng
pakinabang o interes. Sa galit, inutusan niya na ang
isang talento ay kunin mula sa mahiyain na alipin at
ibigay sa alipin na pinakamatapang na namuhunan.

According to Fr. Shoenstene:
† The TALENTS were commonly interpreted as gifts & abilities given by God and
expected to “spend” and “invest” it wisely.
† TALENTS, in ancient times, was a measure of heaviness (weighty). It is not
something easily carried inside a pocket. In short, 5 Talents is much heavier than 2 or
1 Talent.
† For an ancient Jew, the “heaviest TALENT” would be the “kabod” of Yahweh.
† What is the “kabod” of Yahweh? Where can you find it?

According to Aquinas:
† The 5 Talents were related to the increase of material things that is accessible
to the 5 senses – meaning sight, smell, hear, taste, & touch.
† The 2 Talents symbolizes practical intelligence, or the ability to get things
done (o sa tagalog ay maabilidad sa isip at lakas).
† The 1 Talent represents the “ONE thing necessary” that we will have
perfectly in heaven and imperfectly here – contemplative knowledge or
simply our FAITH
Thus the servant with one talent was called to be a contemplative, certainly a privileged position
among the servants, and the most lofty. But he was ungrateful, and did nothing with his gift, and
so he lost everything, and his gift was given to the one who had received the lesser gift to begin
