FACTORS AND SITUATIONS THAT COULD CAUSE A FALL:-

 Unprotected sides, edges and holes


 Improperly constructed walking/working surfaces
 Being struck by falling objects;
 Improper use of access equipment (ladders and lifts)
 Failure to properly use PFAS
 Slips and Trips

• housekeeping

• Uneven surfaces, Poor lighting

• Unsuitable foot wear;

• Slippery surfaces;

• Wind, rain and water / ice

Inspection
Inspect before use each day
Inspect rings, snap hooks, buckles,
and belts for sign of deterioration
and cracks

Inspect for cuts, tears, burns, and


chemical contact

Remove from service if defective or


if exposed to a fall

Safety Harness :
Fall protection is required for all heights that
are 1.8 metres in height or higher

Proper/Adequate ABC’s make up the PFAS


A failure in any of the ABC’s can be the
difference between a fall arrest and fall related
death

GUARD RAILS

 Designed to keep people falling from platforms or


walkways

 May be temporary or permanent

 Rails must be able to support 200 lbs

 Rails must be 39 to 45 inches above surface

GUARD RAIL SYSTEMS
Guard rail systems provide a barrier to protect the employee from falling.
Guard rail systems shall be capable of with standing, without failure, a force
of at least 200 Guard rail systems shall be so surfaced as to prevent injury to
an employee.

USE Safety Harness


CRANE HOIST MAN BASKET
 Man Basket may only be used when there is no practical
alternative is possible to work at height.

 Basket shall be tested by third party in every 6 months.

 Obtain permit to use the man basket and prior to lifting the
person a trial lift shall be carried out.

 Man basket shall be marked the SWL and maximum number of


passengers allowed to ride.

 Wind speed should be checked prior to use.

 Safety harness must be secured to the life line attached to the


hook of the crane and anchor at all times.

 Man Basket shall be used for man riding only and not carrying
material.

 Riders should keep their hands always on grabbing points.

When riding/working from these


devices:

•Do not tie off to any adjacent


pole or
structure outside basket.
•Place man lift on a level surface

•Do not travel when the boom is


extended or the ground is uneven.

Personnel working or traveling on


a man basket shall wear full body
harness and secure their safety
lanyards.
