Lesson in Science 4

Quarter 1
Week 5
Day 1 and 2
Objective:
Describe what happens to the
solid materials when mixed
with other solid materials.
Review:
What happened to the solid materials
when heated? when cooled?
Do you eat Do you know
fruit salad? how fruit salad is
prepared?

What are the

ingredients of
fruit salad?
List down the ingredients that you
know in making fruit salad. Imagine
putting together the ingredients that
you wrote.
In preparing fruit salad, all the solid and liquid
ingredients should be combined/ mixed. And
when you mixed or combined two or more
materials together, you prepared a mixture.
In our activity, you will
investigate what happens when
solids are mixed with other solid
materials
Group Activity

Presentation
Which pair of materials can still
be distinguished after mixing/
combining them?
Which pair of materials cannot be
distinguished after
mixing/combining them?
Which mixture looked the same
throughout?
Some solid materials, when
mixed with other solids, cannot
be distinguished from each
other. If the resulting mixture
looked the same throughout,
such mixture is called
homogeneous mixture.
Which mixture did not looked the
same throughout?
When the solid material is
mixed with other solid
material, each of the combined/
mixed materials can be easily
identified/ distinguished from
one another. Such mixture is
called heterogeneous mixture.
Is there a change in the property
of the solid materials in the
mixture?
The properties of each solid
material in the mixture do not
change. The size, shape, color
of each solid material remain
the same even after mixing.
What happened to the solid
materials when mixed with other
solid materials?
Cite examples of solid
materials being mixed.
Identify the kind of mixture
formed.
Is it proper to mix all solid
materials found in your
kitchen? Why?

What can be done to

organize them
properly?
Assignment
The learners will list down two (2)
homogeneous materials and three (3)
heterogeneous mixture.
