Basic Details about the Battle
Time Line- 630 CE 8 AH in the Month of Shawwal

Location- In the Hunayn valley, on the route from Mecca to At-Ta’if

Reason for the Battle of Hunayn
• After enemies of Islam failed to wipe out Islam in
Badr, Uhud, and The Trench Battles
• The conquest of Makkah triggered the mass
conversion of the Arabs to Islam in Many parts of the
Country.
• Hawazen and Thaqif refuse to abjure idolatry and
prepare for war against Muslims
• Malek bin Awf takes command of the Pagan army
• Malek drives Hawazen and Thaqif with all their
properties to valley of Awtaas
Preparation for Battle
• The Messenger Of Allah (s.a.w) Leaves Makkah to
Hunayn
• It was the Month of Shawwal
• Army consisted of Twelve thousand Muslims
• Ten thousand of those who had taken part in the
conquest of Makkah
• Two thousand from those who accepted Islam after the
conquest of Makkah
• At that time, this was considered to be a large army,
causing the Muslims to be filled with overconfidence in
achieving an effortless victory
Preparation for Battle
• The Hawazin were a group of idol worshippers that
were unwilling to accept the message of Islam.
• Their tribe leader, Malik ibn Awf Al-Nasri ordered
his men to gather all the women, children, money
and live stock and prepare to set off as an entire
village with the intention of overwhelming Prophet
Muhammad (SAW) .
• It was an old Arab practice for the women and
children to be brought with the army to

The Matchless Bravery of the
Prophet s.a.w
•The Prophet s.a.w stood fast all the attack
saying
“come on, oh people ! I am the messanger of
Allah. I am Muhammad, the son of Abdullah.”

• A few of the emigrants and some his kinsmen


stood by him

•He went on saying “Truly saying, I am the


Prophet ! I am the grand son of Abdul Muttalib”

•When the fight grew fierce, the messanger of Allah (s.a.w) , picked
up a handful of earth , hurdled it at the face of the enemy

• This caused their eyes to get thick with dust and they retreated
in utter confusion.

•With in a few hours the enemy begin to flee, leaving behind 24,000
horses, 40,000 sheep and thousands of women.

• A group of Muslims was sent to chase them down


•The Messanger (s.a.w) himself left for Ta’if to face the greatest
number.
Lessons Learned

• The lesson learned from the battle of


Hunayn is that victory always comes from
Allah (SWT) regardless of the number of
men in the army of Muslims. As mentioned in
the Qur’an: At-Tawba 9:25-26
• At-Tawba 9:25-26

• [25] Assuredly Allah did help you in many


battle-fields and on the day of Hunayn:
behold! your great numbers elated you,
but they availed you naught: the land, for
all that it is wide, did constrain you, and
you turned your backs in retreat.
• [26] But Allah did pour His calm on the
Messenger and on the Believers, and sent
down forces which you saw not: He
punished the Unbelievers: thus does He
punishes those without Faith.
