VOICE indicates the form of a verb
that shows whether the subject is
the doer or the receiver of the
action.
ACTIVE VOICE shows the subject as
the doer of action
* The executive assistant will review
the pertinent documents tomorrow.

* The students have seen the bamboo


organ in Las Piñas.
PASSIVE VOICE shows the subject
as the receiver.

*Many tricks had been learned by the


dolphins.

USES OF THE PASSIVE VOICE

• When the speaker is more interested in


the thing that is done than in the person
who does it.
My bag was stolen.
• For general, impersonal statements.
Mangoes are grown in Guimaras.

• When the writer wants to sound


objective.
It is said that the parents regretted
their decision.
• When the writer wants to be tactful.
You were given wrong information.

• When the doer of the action is


vague/unknown.
The purchased orders will be
shipped tomorrow.
