Decoding Dyslexia
 Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that is neurobiological
in origin.
 About 10% of the population suffers from dyslexia. Dyslexics
face issues while processing words from written language to
speech and word decoding.
 Typical manifestations of dyslexia include problems in
distinguishing shapes of letters, and not being able to separate
similar sounds, such as b, d, p, q, m, n, etc. The rotation of
letters can be considered as an effect that causes these
difficulties.
 As a consequence, it has been observed that the eye
movements of dyslexics are different from the eye movements
of non-dyslexics.

Eye tracking movements
Typical patterns for dyslexic eye movements are more frequent and
longer fixations, shorter saccades, and more regressions.
Fixations are specified as periods when the gaze remains at the same
location for 200–300 ms and Saccades as rapid and abrupt eye
movements that shift the point of fixation.
Progressive: Eye movements from left to right.
Regressions: Eye movements from right to left.
For dyslectics it is typical to make more regressions than healthy ones.
